Protestors will circle outside Queen Anne branch of Chase bank (1417 Queen Anne N) in an event they call simply: FIRE CHASE - MOVE YOUR MONEY.
Some protesters will enter the bank to close accounts in the bank.
One customer, Lynn, says: “I have had accounts with WAMU since 1990, I moved most of them when Chase took over because I do not want to be a customer to the 2nd largest bank in the US. I’m removing my last account because I don’t want my money to help create big bonuses for top managers in NYC. I’m moving my money to a Seattle credit union, so it help creates profit in Seattle and keeps money circulating in the community. Chase is part of the same corporate banking monolith that contributed to the economic crisis that the average person is still reeling from. Many people have suffered greatly because of foreclosure or unemployment.”
Two other protesters, Ruth and Mike, are also closing their account. They say, “ Chase has become a rich person’s bank requiring $1500 minimum balance to avoid a service fee. They are contributing to inequity in America by paying their CEO’s and shareholders exorbitant profits and bonuses. Chase is dodging its corporate taxes, contributing to federal and state deficits. They used TARP money to buy out WAMU. We agree with Senator Sanders and Ron Paul – we would like to see an audit to see what they really did with the money because it did not go to making loans into the community and getting the economy going. We are through with Chase.”
One sign will say:
We’re all reeling
From Bankster Chase’s stealing,
Predatory lending,
Toxic-mortgage dealing,
Overseas jobbing,
Tax-share dodging,
Bank fees gouging
Congressional meddling,
Bailout feasting,
And bank-boss gorging.
